About our Dojo

Arlington Virginia Isshinryu Karate is a resident-run, non-profit fitness program held at the Fairlington Community Center. Its purpose is to provide qualified instruction in Karate, Self-Defense and the principals of traditional martial arts through training in Okinawan Isshinryu Karate.

Training in this program includes: cardiovascular conditioning and flexibility exercises, self-defense skills, traditional forms known as Kata, and competitive point sparring. (Safety equipment is required during sparring, and the safety of the student is always given the highest priority.) No experience is necessary, and beginning students are taught seperately from advanced students. Character development, respect and self-control are also promoted during training to help students cope with daily stress and life pressures. Finally, the program
encourages personal achievement and promotes time-management skills.
